Sitting on the porch of my friend’s apartment, I marvel at the beauty of the setting sun unrolling in front of my eyes. Alas! I wonder to myself that my friend sitting close to me is missing the entire natural panorama. I decide to narrate to her what I see so that she can realize the beauty of the sunset. It is difficult to explain to her the changing hues the sky is donning with every fleeting moment as the colors won’t matter to her. She has never seen any color, but the color of darkness.
I want to describe how the birds are flying to their nest to take their hard earned rest after their daily toil to secure food for the night. But she won’t be able to recognize any bird. Then I realize that the only way to make her understand the beauty of sunset is to make her feel it. I make her stand and slowly walk her to the end of the porch and back to our sitting position. With this movement, she smiled and said the sun is setting as she got to feel the change of temperature by her feet. She asks me what flapping sounds are audible nearby. To this I explain that the birds are returning to their nest and are greeted by their offsprings who are happily nibbling their parents for food. She realizes that sunset must be the time for uniting with the dear ones. I tell her it is also the unifying moment of the sun and the sky for the last time that day. With tears flowing down her eyes, she realizes how surrealistic this sunset might be. |
